We Need Your Help
We need to collect a broad and diverse set of evidence data to improve our chances of a favourable outcome. If you have used any section of the route and/or can provide historical documents, maps, photographs etc of the route then your help is invaluable.
Please download the Evidence Form. You will need to print the document and fill in the form in a true and accurate way. If you are unable to produce a map to include with your form then please make a map request following the link below.
A key priority for our organisation is to secure the recognition of the historical Lord Carlisle Railway route as a public right of way. This objective requires us to follow a legal process that involves submitting an application to amend the Definitive Map.
The Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) is a formal legal procedure governed by the Wildlife and Countryside Act of 1981. The DMMO is used to update the official legal record of public rights of way. Through this process, it is possible to add, remove, or modify a public right of way based on valid evidence.
Applications for a DMMO must be supported by good evidence of use provided by the general public, without challenge, throughout a twenty year period or more. This can be supported by historical, documentary, photographic, cartographic evidence and more. These applications are submitted to the local council for consideration.
To support our application, the committee are actively seeking individuals who have used the route and are able to provide an evidence statement. These contributions are critical for demonstrating the public’s long-term use of the railway route and will help achieve our goal of securing its status as a public right of way.
